Attorney General Jeff Sessions represents one view, epitomized by his decision to restore mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses on Friday – undoing guidance aimed at reducing prison overcrowding. “It is a core principle that prosecutors should charge and pursue the most serious, readily provable offense,” he said in the memo.
