Norway-Russia relations to deteriorate following U.S. Marines' base extension: Russian embassy

Added: 25.06.2017 7:55 | 0 views | 0 comments

Norway's decision to extend the presence of U.S. Marines on its soil will worsen relations with neighboring Russia and could escalate tensions on NATO's northern flank, the Russian embassy in Oslo told Reuters on Saturday. Some 330 Marines will be stationed in Norway until the end of 2018, the government said on Wednesday, doubling the length of what was initially billed as a one-year trial period. The deployment last January to practice winter warfare and cross-country skiing, and to participate in joint exercises, marked the first foreign troops to be stationed in the NATO member country since the end of World War Two.

Has Sony Really Fallen Out of Love with Indie Games?

Added: 25.06.2017 6:54 | 0 views | 0 comments

Push Square: "Ever since PlayStation Europe chief Jim Ryans unfortunate choice of words on indie games, theres been a spate of hot takes about how Sonys abandoned the scene. Its taken us at Push Square Towers by surprise, seeing as only a few months ago we were writing articles arguing against PlayStation Store curation. Ysee, a string of sub-par digital downloads prompted an alternative hot take from the very same gaming press earlier this year: why are so many games allowed on the PlayStation 4? If youre feeling dizzy, then so are we."

If Baghdadi is dead, next IS leader likely to be Saddam-era officer

Added: 25.06.2017 5:55 | 0 views | 0 comments

If Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is confirmed dead, he is likely to be succeeded by one of his top two lieutenants, both of whom were Iraqi army officers under late dictator Saddam Hussein. Experts on Islamist groups see no clear successor but regard Iyad al-Obaidi and Ayad al-Jumaili as the leading contenders, though neither would be likely to assume Baghdadi's title of "caliph", or overall commander of Muslims. Russia's defense ministry said last week Baghdadi may have been killed in an air strike in Syria and Interfax news agency quoted a senior Russian parliamentarian on Friday as saying the likelihood that he had been killed was close to 100 percent.

EU leaders slam Britain's Brexit citizens plan

Added: 25.06.2017 3:56 | 0 views | 0 comments

EU leaders warned Friday that Britain's plans to protect the rights of European citizens post-Brexit risked leaving them worse off, after Prime Minister Theresa May made what she insisted was a "fair" offer. "My first impression is the UK offer is below our expectations and this risks worsening the situation of our citizens in the UK," EU President Donald Tusk told a news conference after the second day of a Brussels summit. European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker told reporters that May's offer to EU leaders over dinner late Thursday was a "first step but this step is not sufficient".
